Episode 33 --- Tiffany D. Jackson
I had the pleasure of meeting YA author Tiffany D. Jackson this past November at the Miami Book Fair. Her latest novel, Monday's Not Coming, tackles the issue of Black girls going missing without much attention from the adults in their lives or the news media. The novel covers the title character's disappearance and the hurdles her best friend, Claudia, endures as she tries to find her. The book shows how the adults in Monday's life failed her over and over again.
Monday's Not Coming is Tiffany's second novel. She published her first novel in 2017. Allegedly was widely praised by critics for its gritty portrayal of a Black teenager convicted of murdering a white infant she was babysitting.
Clearly, Tiffany doesn't stray from the tough subjects. But she also has a lighter side. We shared a lot of laughs during our conversation particularly about a series of books that we both didn't exactly love.
- The inspiration for Monday's Not Coming
- Why she doesn't want her novels to be an escape for teens
- An unpopular opinion about a popular book series

We'll send a free copy of Monday's Not Coming to the first listener to tell us the book Tiffany was reading at the time of our interview.
If you have won a ReadMore giveaway in the last 90 days, you're ineligible. If we ever attended a Clayton Rec summer program together, you're probably ineligible. ReadMore does not have a friends and family plan. But we'll always have the leg burn from that really tall, metal slide at the main town park.
